Red Bull Media House and Burton announced that PAVED, a feature-length snowboard film produced over the course of two years, will be released worldwide for free on Red Bull TV starting November 7.
The 45-minute film follows Burton’s global team riders as they push the evolution of backcountry snowboarding through world-class skill, creativity, and vision. Filmed across Japan and other breathtaking mountain ranges around the world, PAVED captures riders carving through vast, untouched terrain while blending photography and illustration into a dynamic, fast-paced visual style.
One of the film’s greatest highlights is its impressive scale and star-studded rider lineup—made possible through the collaboration of two of the most influential brands in action sports, Red Bull and Burton.
Ahead of the film’s public release, a world premiere screening was held on Saturday, October 11, at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills.
On the day of the event, five riders featured in the film—Ben Ferguson, Danny Davis, Mikkel Bang, Takeru Otsuka, and Raibu Katayama—appeared on stage.
The premiere provided a rare opportunity for fans and industry guests to interact with some of the world’s top snowboarders, as the athletes greeted attendees, signed autographs, and posed for photos.
Following the screening, a talk session was held in which Red Bull athlete Ben Ferguson and Takeru Otsuka shared stories about the film and reflected on memorable experiences from the production and filming process.
“The title PAVED basically means, ‘If there’s no path, make your own.’ That’s exactly what it feels like when you’re riding in the backcountry—you’re constantly creating your own line. You’re moving through untouched powder, places where no one has gone before.
To me, snowboarding is meaningful because you do it with your friends. I was lucky to be surrounded by an incredible crew, and filming this project was an amazing experience from start to finish. We never consciously tried to create a certain atmosphere—it just happened naturally. The best kind of vibe came together on its own.”

About PAVED
PAVED, a collaborative production by Burton and Red Bull, explores how the current generation of riders is contributing to the legacy of backcountry freestyle snowboarding.
Set against the dramatic landscapes of Haines, Alaska, the film features legendary Burton team riders such as Mark McMorris and Danny Davis, alongside all-terrain specialists including Mikkel Bang, Ben Ferguson, and Brock Crouch.
The story then expands across the globe, following riders as they carve their own lines through the deep powder of Japan, the backcountry of British Columbia, Canada, the mountains of Tahoe, and other iconic snowboarding destinations.
While PAVED is filled with breathtaking helicopter drops, bold line choices, and powerful tricks, its true focus lies elsewhere. At its heart, the film captures the experience of spending time in the mountains with friends—the shared challenges, growth, and unforgettable moments that define snowboarding culture.
Directed by Ian Durkin and produced by Pirate Movie Productions, PAVED combines mixed media, photography, and illustration to portray snowboarding in its most authentic form. Alongside stories of resilience, first experiences, and personal growth set against some of the most spectacular terrain on Earth, the film also includes previously unseen footage from Burton’s latest collection.
The Riders of PAVED
The crew featured in PAVED is nothing short of extraordinary.
The lineup includes three-time Olympic medalist Mark McMorris and two-time Olympic medalist Anna Gasser, as well as freestyle innovator Zeb Powell, known for his creativity and unique approach to riding, and backcountry freestyle specialist Ben Ferguson.
Also featured are Olympic medalist Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, whose riding blends competitive excellence with a deep connection to natural terrain; all-mountain master Mikkel Bang; and aerial trick specialist Brock Crouch.
Leading the action is style icon Danny Davis, while Takeru Otsuka, Raibu Katayama, Eiki Helgason, and Maria Thomsen make guest appearances, adding their own distinct personalities and styles to the film.
